THE FIRST TIME WE MET:A TRIBUTE TO MY MOM

Do you remember the first time we met?

I saw the twinkle in your eyes and heard the ripple in your words.

I knew the void you felt and the love you longed for,

They mirrored the ache I felt deep within.

So, I asked God to send me your way;

I knew we belonged together, even before I met you.

Do you remember the first time we met?

I felt your love with every tender tummy rub,

So I kicked hard, to say, “I love you too.”

I heard every silent prayer and whispered wishes,

Felt every pain and tear you shed as I grew and stretched within you.

But you held on strong and carried me through,

I knew we belonged together, even before I met you.

Do you remember the first time we met?

You screamed as your body tore to bring me forth,

Then, you stretched your arms to welcome me home.

Your eyes lit up when they met mine, and you clung to my tiny, outstretched hand.

You’ve never let me go since, holding me close to your chest, always.

I knew we belonged together, the moment we met.

Do you remember the first time we met?

You watered my roots and shielded me from life’s harshest rays

You stood behind me, unwavering, fighting all my battles,

Holding my hands through every darkness,

And shouting the loudest in every triumph.

I knew we belonged together, the moment we met.

Do you remember the first time we met?

Even on days when the world stands still,

You are still and always will be my first love.

Even when the darkness presses in, and shadows try to overtake me,

You remain my guiding light.

I knew we belonged together, the moment we met.

Do you remember the first time we met?

And when that day comes, when I must finally let you go,

I’ll rest firmly in the truth that you’re never truly gone.

For you and I were made for each other.

You will always be my angel, my shield, my forever home.

I knew we would always belong together, the moment we met.
